Running through Finals

12 12 2007

Today commenced the end of the semester for me. I have to admit that it was one of the hardest semesters I have had. So many project, not the motivation that one would normally have. I would blame it on the senioritis and on a few of the uninspiring classes. I ran to the end, but man am I needing to get my breath back. Sometimes I wonder about the education system. Specifically, of course, higher education.

I think that the classes that are uninspiring have nothing to so with the education system in general, they just happen. I just happen to take them all at the same time.

Class Lowdown:

Electronic Research and the Rhetoric of Information: Bullshit. I feel like I have an inability to give any other way to describe this class. I would be great if the professors were more educated in relevant information like copyright, governmental policy and how these thing affect information. We did way to much database searching. Yes, it was called Electronic Research, but I will not have access to college databases after I leave WSU. If the professors had actually had taken more then one week to prepare they would have realized that the topics they picked for group projects and papers were total crap. Mine was Disciplines in Other Cultures. Now, how would you research that? Other countries and cultures generally now have westernized their education system, whether you like it or not. So it became bullshit. Agree, Disagree . . .

Advanced Multimedia Authoring: Was one of the better classes. The beginning was great, which was Flash. The second part was a new technology of interactive design and video. Lastly, the third part of storyboarding and game design which was good discussion, but only two classes, so pointless in application. I don’t plan on doing video game design, so not that big of a deal. Though the part of having three different professors for each section was rather difficult and made grading a bitch. However, I have actual projects to show, which is a plus.

Literary Theory: The most difficult. I am not an English major, though a minor. Theory is interesting, but damn, so much reading. Of course, you know I love reading. It was hard reading and a lot of reading and a lot of writing on the reading. Lacan, Derrida, Kristava, and Said. Heavy hitters, intellectuals, and I had to read tons of them. I think because I have a hard time with senioritis this year, it made it more difficult to bring myself to really get into some of the theorists. But I enjoyed listening to other people divulge their ideas on the the topics. This one drained me.

Digital Literacy: Pretty much n independent study or project. I worked with Student Services to produce video and podcasts for iTunes U. I filmed and edited a few things. I think the fact that my professor loved them, made it worth it. I may be a bit hard on myself when it comes to this kind of stuff, but nonetheless it was hard. It was mainly hard because of getting enough time to work in the lab. It took a few weeks just to figure out where I would be able to work, since I have a PC and home and I was going to use Final Cut Pro. I got it done though. I think I may be able to continue with the project later.

Okay, now if you are interested in WSU Digital Technology and Culture program here was your first little look at some of the crap you would have to deal with. Anywho, Fuck it. It’s over!!!
