Iowa Democratic Results:
With all Democratic precincts reporting, Obama had the support of 38 percent of voters, compared to 30 percent for John Edwards and 29 percent for Hillary Clinton.
So when I heard that Hilary Clinton came in third in the Iowa caucuses, I was thinking, how many pundits would actually count her out? None, of course not. If any other candidate came in third they would have been considered finished by many within the media. So when Clinton the media’s main candidate to win as of late comes in third in Iowa, she is still in the game and going to New Hampshire. Yet, John Edwards come out to bet Clinton narrowly, and he is the finished one? Come on, just because he isn’t the media’s first pick and favorite political poster child, doesn’t mean you should count him out yet. Then again, they could call back to the 2004 election when Edwards came in second and could never get any other momentum to bet out Kerry. I think the media picks their mavens and roll with it, leaving every other candidate to eat crack coverage. Of course the media loves Hilary Clinton, they know her and they love the familiar face of the former first lady. This is why Tim Russert and the whole NBC election coverage really bugs me. Then again, I think the New York Times should as well:
“Barack Obama’s decisive victory was potentially the end of John Edwards’s second presidential run.”(After Iowans Vote, Others Step in to Review Results. Jan 3, ‘08 )
Shouldn’t the fact that Hilary Clinton came in third be the end of her campaign? Yet it is Edwards that is finished.
Good to Barack Obama and the energy that he brings to the political spectrum within this country. I think both Barack Obama and John Edwards are good for proving that change is what the people want. Yet the media isn’t focused on that, they want Hilary back, so to them, Edwards is out.
I really believe that Edwards has much more grassroots and ground support then the media is giving him credit for.
