Obama Wins South Carolina & A Kennedy

26 01 2008

The Headline should be, “Fairy Tales Do Come True.”

Along with the swiping victory of 55% of the vote in South Carolina, Barack Obama wins the endorsement of Caroline Kennedy, daughter of late President John F. Kennedy. In her op-ed column in the NYTs, Kennedy say:

“It isn’t that the other candidates are not experienced or knowledgeable. But this year, that may not be enough. We need a change in the leadership of this country — just as we did in 1960.”

A very interesting endorsement, since the Kennedy comparisons have already been coming for a few weeks, if not months.

Also, Obama won 25 delegates in South Carolina, while Hilary Clinton won 12 and John Edwards won 8. Bring the non-super delegate total to:

  • Obama: 63
  • Clinton: 48
  • Edwards: 26

Here is Obama’s Victory Speech from South Carolina

Also note that the majority of the youth vote went to Obama as well, showing his appeal to that demographic. Hopefully this will get out all the young voters out for their candidate. Hopefully they will see the importance of this election and the movement coming out of the Obama camp and educate themselves. Awesome for all the young voters.

Here are some other stats from South Carolina and those who voted for Obama.

  • 57% of voters who had never voted in a primary
  • 66% of voters who had never voted before at all
  • Every type of community — urban, suburban, and rural
  • 58% of voters between ages 18 and 64
  • 67% of voters between ages 18 and 29
